Digital Economy is the main focus area of the Cluster ICT, Media and Creative Industries Berlin-Brandenburg.
Digitisation is the ultimate driving force behind innovation in the capital region in the sense that it transcends individual disciplines, industries and structures. Digitisation changes the entire economic – but especially the industrial – value chain. This is why it serves as the very basis for maintaining competitiveness. Digitisation bears huge opportunities for the region of Berlin-Brandenburg.
Today the region of Berlin-Brandenburg has already positioned itself well as a driving force for innovation. Its unique expertise and competence ranging from start-ups all the way through the IT and Internet economy to the science and research communities have already received international attention. Institutions such as the German Internet Institute, the Hasso Plattner Institute, the Einstein Center Digital Future or the Fraunhofer Berlin Center for Digital Transformation stand for excellence, and at the same time they helped Berlin and Brandenburg to become “Digital Hubs”, competence centres as well as agencies for the programme “Mittelstand 4.0” and the funding initiative “Innovative Higher Learning Institutions” (Innovative Hochschule).
This is why the Cluster management supports important players in strengthening the importance of the capital region as a driving force for digitisation, as a leading location in the fields of information and communications technology and media and design economy. The topics covered range from Economy 4.0 to Smart City and Smart Region, from skilled employees to Labour 4.0, from the Internet of Things and Services to Industry 4.0.
The Cluster is also a “Start-up-Cluster” with a considerable number of newly founded businesses – most of them in the field of digital economy. Start-ups in particular propel structural change, which is why many “cross-cluster-bridges” and innovation pools are constructed also through the use of modern innovation management, e.g. via open innovation, hubs, labs, accelerators and incubators.
Two national “Digital Hubs” (Berlin and Potsdam), as well as the Berlin Center for Digital Transformation and the “Innovation Centre Modern Industry Brandenburg”, which both support mid-tier businesses on their journey into a digital world, also belong to the digital “ecosystem” at the Havel and the Spree.
