Digital infrastructures - guarantor for sustainable digitisation of the economy
As the basic infrastructures of digitisation, high-performance data centres, along with an appropriate broadband infrastructure, have a significant influence on current and future economic development and provide the basis for the high additional value-added potential to be expected from digitisation.
However, data centres also require energy and are at the same time the central prerequisite for achieving the climate targets in Germany and Europe. In order for the digital transformation to succeed in all sectors of the economy and to meet the climate targets of the European Union and Germany, the corresponding areas of tension between energy consumption, CO2 emissions and ecological sustainability and economic success must be addressed and resolved, as well as the framework conditions for digitisation must be created and companies must prepare for a digital and sustainable transformation at an early stage.
The Allianz zur Stärkung Digitaler Infrastrukturen, founded under the umbrella of eco, would therefore like to raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges of digitisation and the importance of digital infrastructures in a discussion round in cooperation with the VKU publishing house, highlight synergies of the stakeholders on the market and thus positively shape future political decisions on Germany as a digital location, including in Berlin.
