Vorn - The Berlin Fashion Hub has opened a microfactory at Bikini Berlin. It aims to use modern knitting technologies and digital processes to make textile production more efficient and environmentally friendly. Production is tailored to demand in order to avoid storage costs and material surpluses.
The Microfactory uses three sophisticated knitting machines from Stoll, which are combined with digital design and control systems. In addition, the 3D design software Clo3D is used to create and optimize virtual prototypes. A recycling plant enables the reuse of yarns, which is supported by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). Local production helps to reduce transportation routes and CO2 emissions.
The Microfactory offers a showroom with a digital material library and a workshop area for developing new collections. There are also sales areas to test new retail concepts. Michael Biel, StS of SenWEB, emphasizes Berlin's innovative strength and the combination of responsibility and creativity in the fashion world. Marte Hentschel, one of the founders of the Fashion Hub, speaks of a paradigm shift in the value chain, leading from “first produce, then sell” to “first sell, then produce”.
From May, textile and fashion designers can book workshops with experts from the Fashion Hub to find out about the design and (digital) production of innovative and individual knitwear. Previous knowledge of machine knitting is not required. Bookings are now possible here!
